I have been engaged in GTK+ programming for a year or so now. I know that GTK+ is quite unheard of. So, to be brief, GTK+ is a toolkit or a set of libraries that enable software development in Linux. I use Glade, which is GTK's equivalent to VB (that is to say, roughly equivalent). During all this time, I have written a few tutorials on Glade. These are:

Me with my catThe best experience that I have had in this GTK+ field was working with Barry Drake on my project WinGTK. When I had started using GTK+ with Glade, it was all in RedHat 6.2 Linux & GNOME. One day, I decided to get my hands on Tor Lillqvist's GTK+ libraries for win32. But, to be honest, I really had a very difficult time installing them and getting them to work. The document on Tor's site did mention that his libs were not meant to be used by beginners like VB users (or something like that).

That was the time when I decided that things need to be easy on the Windows platform too! So that was when WinGTK came up. It's a package containing his libs, but was easy to install and compilers were present as well. Then, I ported Glade to win32 ... started working with Barry (who too had created Gtk4Win, something similar to WinGTK) and put up all the other packages that you'll see on the site.

I also maintain a project "Address book program - A Glade example" which has just entered into its development stage. This is going to be an example project for beginners of Glade to get a head start. This shall explain (hopefully in detail) how to create & code a fully functional address book program using GTK+ with Glade. I'd be able to finish up this project when I find enough time for it.

Apart from all this, lemme tell you, that I had some real fun being a part of St. Joseph's College's team to COFAS 2002, an International Computer Olympiad organised by City Montessori School Station Rd. I got the runners up prizes for Computer Quiz & Softek Challenge. More importantly, Our college was adjudged the best college and overall champions at the event, having captured a first prize in the Jingle event, second in Quiz & second in Softek.

Tip of the day life: M$, Gill Bates & Windoze all suck!
